Our Story

Say Hello to The Hill, one of Dublin’s most iconic local pubs.

Our beautiful building first opened its doors back in 1845 and has remained a familiar part of the Ranelagh and Dublin 6 community ever since. Over the years, a number of proprietors have put their own stamp on this timeless bar, which even operated as a greengrocer for a period.

In keeping with that tradition, The Hill has recently undergone a series of sympathetic renovations, breathing new life into the beautiful historic building inside and out. Much of the bar’s original character has been retained, with little nuggets of history still dotted throughout the space. Look closely and you’ll find memories of its previous lives etched into the design, including the original gold mirrored plating above the bar displaying the name Thomas Kennedy, a previous owner. Out front, we’ve also uncovered some of the building’s original brass and wood fittings, allowing the original design to flourish once again.

We’re looking forward to welcoming locals and neighbours back into The Hill. The local pub has always been a focal point of Irish community life, and we want to preserve that tradition in a way that fits contemporary lifestyles. Whether you’re dropping in for a daytime coffee, a post-work pint, a cocktail with friends, or a catch-up on the local goings-on, you’ll find a warm welcome here.

Alongside our drinks selection, we’re keeping things simple and satisfying with toasties served just the way they should be. There’s plenty happening throughout the week too, with our Tuesday quiz, traditional music on Thursday, and blues music every Sunday. It’s all part of keeping The Hill lively, local, and rooted in the community.

Our drinks selection has also been elevated with a carefully chosen cocktail menu, built around familiar favourites and crafted with care by our skilled bartenders. From classics like the Old Fashioned and Negroni to crowd-pleasers like the Espresso Martini, Pornstar Martini and Spicy Margarita, there’s something for every taste.
